Drug testing trial in Logan

13 August 2018

Today’s announcement is more about bagging Logan and getting a cheap headline than it is about actually getting people off welfare and into work.

This idea has been tried elsewhere and it didn’t work.

Medical experts like the Australian Medical Association, St Vincent’s Health and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians all tell us this is a bad idea:

This policy will fail and it will lead to poor health outcomes…"

(RACP President of the Chapter of Addiction Medicine Dr Adrian Reynolds, media release, 22 August)

We have our share of challenges but I’m worried that pushing the most vulnerable in our community to the brink will only make unemployment, homelessness and crime worse.

Malcolm Turnbull is so out of touch he’s wasting money on schemes that don’t work instead of putting more support into creating jobs here in Logan.

If the LNP spent more time on local jobs and less time chasing headlines and knocking our local community we would all be better off.
