Morrison Must Rule Out Any One Nation Deal

New revelations have emerged today about racist slurs cast by another One Nation candidate in Queensland. It’s a further reason for Scott Morrison to make clear that no LNP candidate – in any seat in Queensland – will do a preference deal with One Nation.

New revelations have emerged today about racist slurs cast by another One Nation candidate in Queensland. It’s a further reason for Scott Morrison to make clear that no LNP candidate – in any seat in Queensland – will do a preference deal with One Nation.

Today’s reports state that the One Nation candidate for the Sunshine Coast seat of Fairfax shared fake news that claims the Notre Dame cathedral fire was linked to jihadi terrorism, falsely claimed Labor wants to introduce “sharia law by stealth”, and other absurd and offensive remarks.

This latest incident poses an important question for Scott Morrison – will the LNP exchange preferences with One Nation candidates like this one?

Mr Morrison has come up with a tricky move that leaves the door open to preference deals between the LNP and One Nation candidates in some Queensland seats.

This is the same tricky move the LNP tried at the 2017 Queensland state election, where its regional candidates exchanged preferences with One Nation, while its Brisbane candidates did not.

As a result, LNP preferences elected a One Nation candidate to the Queensland Parliament, and came close to electing more.

One Nation already votes with the LNP nearly 90 per cent of the time in Canberra – to cut schools and hospitals and give handouts to the top end of town.

Mr Morrison should join Labor and rule out any LNP preference deals with One Nation – in any seat in Queensland.
