ACCC appointment

The Albanese Government has today nominated Ms Catriona Lowe to be a Deputy Chairperson of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) for a five‑year period starting on 27 January 2023.

Ms Lowe is currently a board member of the Australian Energy Regulator.

She has previously held a range of roles focused on consumer advocacy, including with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, the Consumer Action Law Centre, the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman and the ACCC.

Until Ms Lowe’s proposed appointment commences, it is proposed that Ms Delia Rickard’s current term as a Deputy Chairperson be extended.

Ms Rickard has been in this role since 2012 and has led much of the ACCC’s consumer protection work with dedication.

I have written to states and territories seeking their support for the proposed appointment and reappointment ahead of recommending them to the Governor‑General.

The Government is looking forward to working with Ms Lowe and Ms Rickard on key consumer protection issues including fighting against online scams.
