Chaotic Coalition finally releases Open Government plan

07 December 2016

Labor welcomes the Turnbull Government’s release of the Open Government National Action Plan, which is long overdue but better late than never.

Labor signed up to the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in 2013 and the Coalition has been dragging its feet since.

The partnership is made up of 70 countries, all working to implement national commitments to improve transparency and accountability in partnership with their citizens.

The Turnbull Government was warned by OGP chief executive officer Sanjay Pradhan last month that Australia could be excluded from the international group if it didn’t submit the plan by the end of the year.

Given the dysfunction and chaos within the Government, it’s disappointing but not surprising that the Finance Minister was scrambling to release the report at the 11th hour – just a day before he is due to attend the OGP Global Summit in Paris tomorrow.
