Liberal MP John Alexander has destroyed Scott Morrison's out-of-touch claim that the Turnbull Government's tax breaks for property investors are having no effect on housing affordability.
As chair of the suspended inquiry into housing affordability, Mr Alexander heard evidence from the RBA and Treasury that Mr Morrison is now sitting on, preventing the release of a final report.
It is clear from Mr Alexander's comments that the inquiry heard that the Federal Government's tax concessions contribute to the unaffordable housing crisis, and that Mr Morrison continues to ignore this advice.
Only Labor has a plan to use the powers and responsibilities of the Federal Government to level the playing field and to make a real difference to housing affordability, instead of palming the issue off onto the states.
Following the Treasurer’s flop of a speech he should face up to the reality that he has no plan or strategy on housing affordability.
The Treasurer must immediately reinstate the affordability inquiry and release its conclusions. Covering up its recommendations is just another example of a Government in chaos.
