On behalf of Federal Labor, I enthusiastically welcome Wayne Swan’s appointment as an honorary Commissioner to the Independent Commission for the Reform of International Corporate Taxation.
This is a very deserving appointment which recognises that Wayne has been a key figure in the global fight against inequality.
Wayne’s experience and outlook will be invaluable to the prestigious ICRICT, a high-level advocacy group that promotes justice in corporate taxation and ensuring corporations can’t avoid paying their fair share.
He will be a terrific fit for the make-up of the ICRICT, which boasts prominent economists and tax experts, including its Chair José Antonio Ocampo, and its Commissioners Joseph Stiglitz, Thomas Piketty, Gabriel Zucman, and others.
Wayne’s outstanding work during the Global Financial Crisis and its aftermath is recognised all around the world and it’s really pleasing to see him get this opportunity.
He might be leaving the Parliament, but this appointment is more welcome proof that he’s not leaving the battlefield of ideas.
Wayne has got a lot to offer and he’s as fired up as ever to make a contribution here and overseas.
