Today I am proud to introduce the Future Made in Australia (Production Tax Credits and Other Measures) Bill 2024.

This Bill is another major step in implementing the Albanese Labor government’s Future Made in Australia agenda, to deliver our country’s next generation of prosperity.

The net zero transformation is a golden opportunity for Australia.

Thank you for having me back to speak today.

I’m sorry I can’t be there in person. I would have loved to have caught up with you in Sydney on Gadigal Land –

But I’m in Canberra today pushing to get super reforms we’ve worked so hard together on, through the Parliament.

Australians have been through a lot in the past decade and a half.

But despite a global financial crisis, a pandemic, a global spike in inflation made worse by war in Europe and the Middle East –

They have maintained a very Australian sense of pragmatism, practicality and purpose – and so has this Government.

Today I want to report on the progress we’ve made together.

It’s hard to imagine a more important time to meet, or a more welcome opportunity. 

Just after the most consequential American election we’ve seen. 

And just before our own Prime Minister joins his colleagues and counterparts at APEC in Peru and G20 meetings in Brazil. 

We have plenty to discuss.

It’s a real honour to be here with you all at this wonderful residence.

Today I am proud to introduce the Treasury Laws Amendment (Mergers and Acquisitions Reform) Bill 2024.

I’m also introducing it on behalf of my colleague Andrew Leigh as the Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, and I’d like to acknowledge him and thank him for his contribution.

Firstly, I would like to thank all the members who have contributed to this debate about a key economic institution.

And for the opportunity to sum up the debate for the Treasury Laws Amendment (Reserve Bank Reforms) Bill 2023.
